HELP WD Red Drive not being properly detected my QNAP NAS TS-212P

I purchased a QNAP TS-212P and installed two 4TB Red Drives. For some reason the drives are being recognized as WDC WD30EFRX and not WD40EFRX. They are coming up as 2.8TB and not 4TB. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi ryancharles, the WD RED drives are not the recommended model for your NAS, so that could be causing the problem. You can also try connecting the WD Red drives directly to a computer motherboard to verify if the full capacity is recognized. Check the link below to view the recommended hard drives for your model.

There are lots of fakes in the marketplace.

I would plug the drive’s serial number into WD’s warranty checker:

Compare the date code on the label against the date codes on the chips and on the PCB.

WD’s PCBs also have a WWYY date code printed on them:
