I was in the process of remodeling a room in my basement for my projection tv.  I hooked everything up and it worked in the beginning.  Now I got all the wires & cables behind drywall and its not working.

Here is my set-up upstairs.

Computer…Win 7

Router …Linksys E3000

Switch--------Dlink

Server--------HP WHS

Cat6 cable going downstairs.

Basement:

WD Live Plus

I read and tried Sticman post on 5/9/2011     If you get this error when trying to connect with your network, do the following.

Still got the same message.  My first thought was maybe I damaged my cat5 cable during the construction, so I ran another cable (cat6) from upstairs thru the outside walls and in hoping this would work.   Same message.  It was not the cable.

Hooked up the PS3 it worked.  Wish I tried that before I replaced the cable.

Are all the LEDs working correctly, indicating an actual connection?   You should see one LED on SOLID and one that blinks occasionally.

Try taking your WD closer to your router and try with a shorter cable.

Yes, the router lights are working.

I should have mentioned that all the lan cables go to the switch box first.

But the light on the switch box that goes from the switch to the WD Live is off.   That was also another reason I replaced that cable.

Well, that’s a pretty significant sign.

It can only be one of three things:

The ethernet port on the LIve has failed.

The cable or connector(s) is bad (not likely if you’ve tested two cables.)

The switchport is failed or incorrectly configured.

Again, see if you can take the unit close to the SWITCH and plug in using a shorter pre-made cable.   See if the lights work then.

 Run static IP addresses.

 Possible kinked cables??
