Help pulling data from old My Book World SATA drives (RAID1)

I have an old My Book World 2TB (MDL WD20000H2NC-00) “White Light” that stopped powering on several years ago. Didn’t think I cared about the data stored on it until now - my wife passed away and I want to see if I have pictures of her on the drives.

Unfortunately accessing them isn’t as easy as connecting a powered SATA reader I have learned after reading topics here. Before I go down the Linux rabbit hole to try and see if there is any pictures I want, I thought I could just buy a used MyBookWorld off of eBay, plug the drives in, and fire them up to pull data off.

Would this work? A friend who is more tech savvy than me said doing this could cause both drives to be overwritten when it boots up.

I couldn’t even find exact model, I found something that looked almost identical (WD20000H2Q-00), but might return it. Any help is appreciated.

Hi @AlexJonahRogo
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

Try Linux Reader for Windows (freeware):

https://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/

Otherwise, try DMDE:

https://dmde.com/

DMDE’s free version may be all you need.

I assumed since this product has been retired for over a decade and long out of warranty I wouldn’t get any help from official support
