Help! My Passport Ultra Problems

I have a relatively new unit onto which I have downloaded files probably of about 20-30 gig and which was then put away in a cupboard.  Yesterday I wanted to retrieve some photos and plugged it into my laptop and the light on it started to blink but took something like 15-20 mins before it was recognised on the computer.  Then when I wanted to access files, it again took ages to recognise them.  Once I started to download 14 photos, probably about 15 mgb total, it took ages again and in the end I gave up and tried a different laptop.  This time, despite it blinking, it wouldn’t recognise the drive even after an hour.  I brought it to work this morning and my PC hasn’t recognised it after another hour.  The lead has probably been used 2 or 3 times up until now and is properly located. I cannot inspect the drive itself because it isn’t being recognised. The USB drives that I tried on each computer are all opening things like memory sticks and telephone leads.  What can I do now please?

Welcome to the Community.

It may be an unfortunate hard drive failure, and if the hard drive is not detected even after trying different computers and replacing the USB cable then it’s best to replace it under warranty.

Thanks for the advice but is there any way that I can get the data off it, as there are many photos that I can’t replace.

Tony

It is possible. However, the process is best handled by a specialised data recovery service company.
