HELP, I can't get any of the WD Elements drives to work!

I have 3 WD Elements drives, two with 4TB and one with 5TB. They all work fine on my desktop, but my brand new, day old laptop(Lenovo 510-15isk) doesn’t recognize them!

They have exactly the same Windows 10.

So far, this is what I tried to do to rectify the problem:

  1. Went into power options, “choose what the power buttons do”>>uncheck “turn on fast startup”
  2. Went into power options, disabled “USB selective suspend”
  3. Rebooted, repowered, replugged. I lost count how many times…
  4. Uninstalling in device manager doesn’t work because the whole thing stalls, infinitely loading. You can only unplug the drive to get the functionality of the laptop back…

Please, I’m running out of options, how can this keep happening??

I think your problem is File Ownership. When you backup to WD drive the file have security set for the computer that owned the files originally. When you try to access them on the Windows 10 machine they are not recognized. It is possible to change the security to accept the new computer. Search the Knowledge Base on 'Permissions". See if you can find instructions in detail. Might also be on Microsoft help.

But why would the device itself not be recognized?

Files is not a device…
