Help for WD 2540 Caviar needed

Hello Community,

i got an old AT Computer ( without USB & CD Burner ) to save Data.
So i put the Hard Drive ( WDAC2540 - Caviar Build 1995 ) over my
External AT/USB Cable to my Windows 10 PC, the Drive will attached,
but isn’t usable, because the Windows Device Manager says - unknown device.

so i need a idea / solution to read the data from the hard disk and expand this.

regards

Alex

Hi AlexAaron,

You should connect WD Caviar drive in compatible Windows OS to make it readable in order to get data recover from this.

I can see three possible solutions:
Find a Windows 10 compatible driver for your PATA/USB adapter. Did it come with a disk?
Buy a PATA/SATA adapter. I see one on Amazon for $4.00. This shouldn’t need a driver.
If the USB adapter works with Linux, you might be able to boot the new machine from a LiveCD and do the copy that way.

Good luck!

Were you able to ever solve this.

I have the exact same issue and same drive.
