Help for a newbie please

I have a WD Cloud Home, and for some reason one of the folders (my private folder) has lost all access.
I can use file manager to get to the top level, and can also get into the Public folder.
Below are the various error messages I get, so would like straightforward steps to change the permissions so I can get access. The data is still there.

  • You do not have permission to view or edit this objects permission settings
  • I tried to search for root to match the public folder but it came back as not found
There was an option to set it up as a new unit, but I did not take that option as I was unclear if it would wipe all my data files.
    Any help greatly appreciated
  1. Do a USB backup of the user files on your My Cloud Home (MCH).
  2. Read the KB linked below a_id/50395
  3. Perform a Clear Device Settings (CDS) which will reset all user file permission. This will take time, minutes to hours depending on user content.
  4. There are reports of guest users losing their files and folders after CDS even though it is stated in the KB that CDS will not do so.

How to Clear Device Settings on My Cloud Home

  • Click the Profile Icon in the top right corner.
    Click Clear device settings.

Clear Device Settings resets:

  • Local Access toggle switch (Default = Off)

  • Local network User Name(s) (Default = not configured)

  • Local network Password(s) (Default = not configured)

  • Database values (Default = new)

  • Albums and shared albums.

Thanks I will try it later and let you know how I get on

Just tried that but the option to clear device settings is not showing

  1. You may not have signed in as the owner
  2. You may not be local to the device MCH.
  3. You may be looking at the wrong menu
  4. You may not have enabled local access.

The KBA also suggested signing in locally with IP Address or with local password
The Clear Device Settings allows device owners to reset if there are issues getting to the private share or enabling local access. The is available in the My Cloud Home dashboard.

  1. Sign into the Dashboard using the Web app, IP Address or Hostname.
