Hi, this was working ok, was a bit slow to access. Now I can see the drive in My Computer, and computer managemkent, and can navigate to some folders, and run virus scan etc, but I cannot open a specific folder (where I stored all my backups!) Help! Can I run checkdisk/f on this? Or should I try it on another computer (i just formatted this one)
Hello,
Just for testing purposes I recommend that you try on another computer.
Hi, I tried the drive on another computer, which did not recognise it at all!
But I did fix it, so here is my solution for any others who have been having the same issue.
-
DO NOT RUN CHECKDISK! This stuffed it even more, so much so that the disc now came up as Raw only.
-
I found this software http://wizardrecovery.com/disk_recovery/disk_recovery.php which is absolutely brilliant, and recovered all my files and backups. I am NOT plugging this product as some sort of advertising, and am only doing it because it literally saved all my stuff. However, it is expensive…cost me as much as a new drive, but worth it to me (others may not agree, but I had old business emails/documents which I absolutely could not lose.
- Always keep your backups on more than one disc
Cheers
Heather
What most likely happened is that the particular folder had a corrupted file in it, which prevented you from being able to access it.
