Hello people, I have a few questions(About the alignment process)

Hello, people, I thought it was better to create an account and ask for help before I do something like frying my hdd!

So here’s what happened, I’ve read this:

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=805&lang=en

And got confused, basically, it says that my hdd might already be align, then midway through the article, it says that it’s not aligned…? So yeah, I think I need some assurance!

A quick search using the “Find by Model Number” for “WD10EZRX-00A8LB0” led me to this page:

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?modelno=WD10EZRX-00A8LB0&x=15&y=12

What I’ve done so far is that I’ve reinstalled windows 7 ultimate and all it’s updates, should I or should I not be concerned with the alignment process?

The WD10EZRX-00A8LB0 is an advanced format HDD, so if you are using Windows XP you need to run the align software, if you are using Windows Vista or 7, you don’t need to do anything.

Thanks for the clear response!

If you get the 20EARS version all you need to do is put a jumper between pins 7-8 and do a quick format. You won’t need to run the alignment program. That might save you some time.
