Since the update to 1.04.10_V , my TV often remains black when i switch on the WD TV Live.
Hitting the reset button resolves the problem, but it is a pain to re-enter everything after the reset every other day.
My WD TV Live is connected through HDMI (and optic audio) to an Onkyo TX-SR607 AV-Receiver, which is connected through HDMI to a Sony Bravia KDL-37W5810U TV.
A similar problem occurs if I switch off the TV: The audio also stops immediately, and when I switch on the TV again, the WD TV Live remains entirely dead.* I used to switch off the TV whenever I was listening to music with my WD TV Live, but since the update this is no longer possible, since the WD TV Live just locks up whenever the HDMI Video Device is switched off or not present.
*(Well, the WD TV Live does react to Power On/Off commands through the remote, but nothing at all happens. Screen stays black, audio stays silent. Only a reset helps.)
Anyone any suggestions?
PS: Otherwise the new firmware rocks: Keyboard support and additional Internet services are really nice!I did not notice any Problems with digital audio or video playback either.
Hi. I have the same problem. After the latest update the WD TV live will not work properly with HDMI. It often fails and it is annoying!
I did find a workaround wich is truly a hassle but I don’t have to reset the WD TV Live.
I plug in the analog cable (yellow, red and white cable) and switch to the corresponding input on my TV. Then I can see the menu. After that I go to settings–>audio/video and choose HDMI auto, auto. When I go back to HDMI input on my TV it works.
I should not have to do this every time! Pleas fix asap!
Thanks for the work-around, that will be useful to me, since my AV Receiver will automatically upscale Analog signals to HDMI. Of course, the quality is then terrible, but as long as I am just playing mp3s, the picture quality does not matter. If it does, I will try re-setting HDMI to Auto. However, I had the impression that the WD TV Live was entirely dead, since the music stopped when I switched off the TV.
Well, I never noticed a difference between auto and 1080p/60. (Unfortunately, for I would prefer the native resolution of content to be used, if possible.)
Anyway, I would much prefer a fix for this newly introduced problem too! Thats is why I am asking:
Workaround via composite video does not work for me. I checked this weekend and I always had analog cables in place in parallel to HDMI (Between WD TV Live and AV-Receiver in order to supply audio to wireless headphones, but I connected the composite video as well; and between TV and AV-Reciever in order watch the old VCR.)
However, now it seems to work again anyway.
What I did? Well, I had trouble with the HDMI audio being completely distorted, and using the reset pin on the device itself did not fix it. So I tried the “reset to factory” defaults in the menu and even after changing all relevant settings (HDMI Resolution, Digital Audio output (=HDMI. There is NO optical cable in my setup like I had wrongly stated above, only HDMI and analog connected between Receiver and WD TV Live - I need the optical ports for other devices)), everything works. I still get audio, even after switching the TV off (although there is a short pause while the Receiver figures out what is going on). Switching the TV on and off several times did not interrupt the WD TV Live!
I never knew that the “reset to factory defaults” via menu was more effective than the reset pin on the device itself, since it also causes all settings to be lost. Well, now I know.
