HDMI version and digital audio output

Hi,

Which HDMI version is supported on WD TV media player (2014 model - WDBPUF0000NBK)? There is no clarity on this in the user manual.

And, under the options “Digital Pass Through via Optical Only (S/PDIF)” and “Digital Pass Through via HDMI Only (HDMI)”, will the player pass on the original audio track from the source as it is to the connected external decoder OR will it decode it into LPCM and then pass on?

Also, I have a 5.1 speakers set which takes discrete analog RCA inputs but no digital inputs. Other than AVRs, are there any other options I can look at to hook up my 5.1 speaker set with the WD TV player?

Thanks in advance.

Venkat

According to  this it’s still 1.3.

im guessing, 1.4  since the Live Hub (2010)  and Live Streaming (2011) are 1.4 going by the Western Digital Knowledge Base

You probably need an Optical (Toslink) to 6 Channel discrete convertor ?

Not cheap (and no guarantee it will work)

The wiki says and i qoute: Released in July 2014. [18] (NTSC model number WDBYMN0000NBK, PAL model number WDBPUF0000NBK). Identical hardware to the WDTV Live Streaming but missing Netflix.

If it’s   Identical hardware to the Live Streaming … then it’s 1.4  … According to the “Western Digital Knowledge Base”

Seems odd the Wiki qoutes the Live Hub as 1.4 then the Live Streaming as 1.3 (which was released after the Live Hub) … a backwards step ?

Thanks Techflaws and JoeySmyth for the quick respone.

All I am looking at is Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA bit stream capability. Based on your response, I understand that it at least supports HDMI 1.3 standard which has the bit stream feature specified as optional. But, again, does the WD TV supports those digital audio codeds bitstream support? And if it does support digital bitstream out, will it pass on the original audio track as is OR will decode and then pass it as LPCM?

Thanks,

Venkat
