HDD stops working until power off/on

Hello,

I have WD10EZEX drive that works good almost all the time.
But under load it could ‘hide’ all stored files and then Windows shows only folders cached.
In this time folders appear empty.
Reset does not help. But after power off and booting system again everything appears on their places.

When this drive was the only in the system, the system hung.
And even BIOS was not able to detect HDD (until desktop powered off for few seconds.)

Please, could anyone tell if this issue could be solved?

Thank you,
Dmitry

Hello,

I recommend you run a diagnostic on the drive using WD DLG.

Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

Thanks Hamlet,

All previous attempts to run diagnostics on drive while it works passed successfully.
And WD DLG result is just the same:

Test Option: QUICK TEST
Model Number: WDC WD10EZEX-22BN5A0
Unit Serial Number: WD-[[DELETED]]
Firmware Number: 01.01A01
Capacity: 1000.20 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: PASS
Test Time: 09:51:18, May 20, 2016

Extended test result:

Test Option: EXTENDED TEST
Model Number: WDC WD10EZEX-22BN5A0
Unit Serial Number: WD-[[DELETED]]
Firmware Number: 01.01A01
Capacity: 1000.20 GB
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: PASS
Test Time: 16:13:55, May 20, 2016

Hi,
I have this exact problem with this drive. Sometimes it stops working totally, even WD diagnostics doesn’t see the drive then. Only way to make it work again is by powering the computer off.
What’s your motherboard, it could be the issue. Mine is Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3.

Thanks…
