HD Shuts off - While working on windows

#1

Hello guys I’m having a strange problem with my PC, everything works perfectly, but for the last couple months sometimes my main HD (a velociraptor) completely shuts off, windows then freezes and I have to restart. And the most interesting thing is that if I leave the machine to start again it wont find the drive, I have to turn if off and then back on, one time I had to remove the cable and attach it again. I’ve tried a couple cables and nothing changed.

Also I tried the WD tool and got this MSG

This drive always worked on my old system no problems, its only now with the new one. Any ideas?

try replacing the sata cable, i have encountered bad ones, in the past.

I just tried with 3 different cables, one new out of the package and they give the same msg.

Are you sure the power connector is secure? the only other time i’ve seen this issue is when i’d used some 4-pin-molex-to-sata-power connectors in the past, and i fixed it by using a different power supply that had actual SATA-power connectors on it.

if that isn’t the problem then it might be a bad drive, look into some kind of error checking software, windows has a built in one (properties for drive -> tools tab) but there’s others from WD i think, i don’t know what they are though.

I’m not using the adaptor, what I have is the SATA-Power, and I tried the WD tool to check the drive but it gives me an error msg even before starts.
