Have to start a new Time Machine backup after attaching USB disk for SafePoint

I have happily been using MyCloud for TimeMachine backups. However, twice in the last 6 months I have plugged in an external USB disk to create and update a Safepoint. That works but then my Mac tells me the Time Machine backup disk has become corrupted and I need to create a new backup.

Is there an order of events so I don’t have to go through this everytime I update my Safepoint?

Is the Safepoint backup being run at the same time or around the same time as the Mac Time Machine backup is being run?

Try to avoid scheduling the two backups from running at or around the same time due to the length of time each may need to complete its backup process.
