Hi,
I am looking to have one mycloudex2 Ultra at location 1 with network provider 1 to copy to a second mycloudex2 ultra at a different location, with a different network provider.
What would be the easiest solution to achieve this? Is there WD software to allow this? Is there any free software? do you need to be linux expert?
thanks,
Robert
Being a linux expert will help - - but is not necessary.
I think the key will be to setup a VPN connection between the two networks.
At that point, your PC on the remote network will “essentially” be on the home network.
If, however, you are planning to have one NAS run a backup to the other NAS, the job gets a bit trickier. Essentially, you have to figure a way to run a VPN client on your first NAS. Something on the second network (usually the router) has to be running a compatible VPN server.
The other way is for the first NAS to address the second NAS across the internet using your second routers WAN IP address** and the HTTPS port of the second NAS. Of course, access this way is far from secure. . . .and implies that you are leaving network ports open that you don’t want to leave open.
**I am leaving out a bunch of detail here
Hi - yes the general Idea would be to have one NAS as a backup for another NAS.
I thought it would be a straight forward activity as WD support mentioned it can done easily.
Obviously being safe and secure is a critical element when you want to keep your data. I am just wondering if I am the first having this request by having data into 2 different physical locations especially when it comes to pictures/videos you have taken yourself.
To reduce the risk, is there some option that I limit when the second NAS is being accessible? E.g. have it run a delta update once a week or so?
I appreciate any of your thoughts,
Robert
