Hard drive to USB?

I have an old internal drive that I pulled from one of our junker PCs that my wife thinks may have photos on it. From what I’ve read, I should be able to buy an SATA to USB adapter cord to have the hard drive recognized on my current PC (I have no desire to permanently install it in my current PC). Has anybody done this? Any particular products that worked well for you? Any issues? Thank you!

Oh, my drive is a WD Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX (I told you it was old!)

That’s a 3.5 inch hard drive ?

A SATA to USB Adapter will Not Work on a 3.5" HDD … (5V USB is not enough to power a 3.5" HDD … those adapters are for 2.5" HDD (Laptop hard drives)

You need a USB Enclosure because they have a AC Power Supply that will provide power to a 3.5"

Recommended brands ? any will work … if you want cheap, look at Simplecom or Orico brands. (i have products from both brands… work fine)

That was exactly the type of help I was hoping for! Thank you!!!
