I am useing wd my book essential with my Mac mini

I would 

like to have the wd 2TB as my main back up disk mainly for 

films

I download the files/films on the 500GB hard drive of the 

Mac mini and use time machine to automatically back up to the

wd disk so when my Mac hd is almost full I can delete files on

the Mac hd knowing they are safely stored on the wd disk.

But when I delete files on the Mac they also get deleted from 

the external wd disk only had my book essential for almost a 

week can anybody advise me on where I may be going 

wrong?

Hello,

It seems to me you are using a Sync option instead of backup. I’ll suggest you you contact apple support for this, they can give a more accurate solution to configure Time Machine.
