Hard drive change in WD Play Elements 2tb

Hi. I have the model wd play elements 2tb b8j (the oldest model). The hard disk has started to give problems. like I record files and don’t recognize them. I’m going to replace the hard drive with another one. But I want to know a few things first.

• Can i put a bigger 4tb or 8tb hard drive?

• When changing the hard drive, how do I get the software, so that it works, the menus, and all those things …?

Highly unlikely. The Firmware likely only supports MBR (Master Boot Record) partition which is 2TB Max and not GPT (GUID Partition Table) for Large Hard Drives over 2TB

All of that is in the Firmware and NAND Flash memory and is not software stored on the hard drive.

The biggest concern is the partition structure and partition type.

You’re welcome to try installing a larger hard drive … but, i highly suspect it won’t work and you’ll be wasting your money.
