Gray'd out files?

Hello
I am new to this forum and I am hoping someone can help me without me having to goto the Geek Squad

I have the My Passport ultra 1TB and I transfered all my photos to it (over time) and I went to find my Christmas picture but they are not there;  I do however see a bunch of gray’d out jpeg files, is tehre a way to recover these files?

To answer some of your possible questions  in advance I have formated the hard drive (with help from Apple so I know its done properly)

I am using it with a new macbook pro

All my other picture’s I have copied to the hard drive are on it and fine, there are about 100 gray’d out jpeg files.

Welcome to the Community.

When was the hard drive formatted? If the process was carried after the pictures were copied, then the files have been erased.

It was done after but I have two hard drives and I took the pictures off the hard drive first and formated it than put the picutres back on This was done at least 6 months ago though, the gry’d out files are recent. Thank you
