Getting my harddrive videos to play

I hooked up my external hard drive with videos and tv shows to my wd player. I clicked on the video icon and  It says there is no storage.  How do you correct this?  Thanks  lew4dtv

helps to provide more info  eg. hdd size, format, tried other hdds, tried other usb cables, tried running chkdsk etc etc

I have tried new usb cable and a a second WD TV Media Player Model C34.  I put in a flash drive with a video loaded and it played.  The external drive is a Seagate Model SRD00F2.
