I dropped my MyBook 4tb from chest height onto hardwood. It was purchased probably 3 years ago, not sure right now. It powered up once post trauma and, Praise God, showed the files onscreen. I should have copied the files then but thought everything was all right. That’s the last time it was recognized by any of my PCs, but it still powers on, sort of. I’ve been reading various posts on forums and watching YT videos, but most of the information is years old. Any suggestions for current conditions, including encryption? I don’t care about saving the drive, just the data. Thanks to all. JCD
If you care about the data, then don’t mess around trying to recover it yourself as the chances are extremely high you’ll do more damage than good and lose the data permanently with no chance of recovery.
Contact a Professional Data Recovery company and get a quote on the cost to recover your data.
(be sitting down when you get the quote)
Get another USB disk and copy the files off of the damaged on as much as possible. If you are that clumsy a USB SSD is more costly but less likely to be damaged if fumbled.
