Ok.  I think ya’ll are having too much fun.

I think it’s clear to everyone that WD hired TRANSLATORS to do the localization.   They should have hired INTERPRETERS.  The people were probably looking at text sheets with no knowledge of the “Context.”

Anchluss-Modus == SSID?   Seriously?

Even then this would not account for all errors especially not for english ones some of which would easily pop up when using Word’s autocorrect:

msgid “The password you entered do not match, please try again.”
msgid "Restart network. Please wait… "
msgid “Are you sure you want to chage the video setting?”
msgid “Visit www.live365.com/vip to sign up. for more info or become a VIP.”
msgid “There was a problem connecting to the network.Check your settings and try again.”

Schon klar. Go figure.

Just out of curiosity, since you seem to be VERY fluent in both languages, do the SPELLING and/or GRAMMER errors carry over to the translations?

Hallo Techflaws

Erst mal vielen Dank für das Feedback. Tja, was soll ich sagen.

:smileyvery-happy:

Hey, I tried.  So, don’t lump me in with the rest.

Some do, most don’t.

I don’t lump anyone with anything. I simply pointed out that your reply about errors in pre-releases wasn’t very convincing since they also show up in the final releases.

Hey, I pass along the issues, and I just report what I’m told.  This has nothing to do with my integrity.

Let me get this straight, the WD folks told you to appease critics of the localization with the fact that it’s only a pre-release despite knowing that the very same errors were also in the final versions? Consider me surprised - not!

First off, nobody told me to appease anyone.  I responsed to the posts, dealing with localization issues, to ask about what was going on with them, and was told what I posted.  If you go back to when I originally did that, it would have been after the first pre-release.  This is a second pre-release.  It’s not yet final.  But, I digress, I’m not sticking up for what anyone told me.  I’m just sticking up for me.  I have no control over what WD finally does.  Nevertheless, I do believe what I was told and what I posted.  So, have people continue to post the language corrections in the beta release thread, so our people can see them.

Do I really have to link to the posts or will browsing this thread suffice? WD at the latest knew about those localization errors since my comprehensive listing on 02-28-2010, yet released a final 1.0.21 in April with none of those fixed despite stating ‘Corrected several language translations issues’ in the release notes. To claim it’s a pre-release issue (whether to appease or not) looks disingenuous and does not inspire confidence in the WD brand.

It is however consistent with what we have come to expect so far. It took WD 7 (!)  firmwares to come up with DVD menu support (not counting the original WD TV’s 10 or so  fimwares) and we’re still not told what took them so long (technical or licensing issues?). The same goes for the utterly pointless and inexplicable switch from black outline to transparent outline in SRT subs which make them almost unreadable.

hi,

the only big mistake on Italian translation is this:

Settings > Audio/Video > “HDMI deep coloro mode” > 8 “bit”

In italian:

“HDMI deep color mode” = “Profondità colore HDMI”

“bit” = “bit”    Do not translate it plz, we do not have a translation for bit in italian, now is translated with MORSO that is BITE in english, it’s funny

thx for your work

    • *and ignore them anymore…

Seeings how we got way off topic here, I freezing this thread.  Please post issues with localization in the beta firmware thread.
