G-Tech RAID Thunderbolt 2 not sleeping on macOS

Hello.

I purchased a 16 tb G-Tech RAID Thunderbolt 2 unit to use as a Time Machine backup for my Mac Pro Late 2013 system.
I owned an Akitio NT2 U3.1 unit before and when I put my mac in sleep mode the RAID also went into sleep mode.

The new g-raid does not go into sleep mode when I put my mac to sleep. It is always active, the noise coming from the disk and from the fan is audible and the front ‘G’ led is illuminated.

Any hints?

The units are designed to not go to sleep. When using an external hard drive the best practice is to not use sleep mode on your computer as it can knock drives offline.

I just got your regular 4 gig HD and wonder if it applies to them as well. Meaning: Can I turn off my computer and just leave the HD on all the time? Or should I unmount it before shutting down and manually turn it off.
