G-Tech G-RAID 4TB hangs, and will not dismount

I have a G-Tech G-RAID 4TB USB3.0 / Firewire connected to an iMAC using Firewire. Since the introduction of El Capitan (and now the same happens with Sierra also), after a while of correct use, the drive becomes un-usable and hangs. It remains mounted with Finder and Disk Utility, but it is impossible to read any data off it. Once in that state, Ejecting it is never successful, and a Force Eject is sometimes successful.

This is an old problem, which I I expected to have been solved a long time ago with El-Capitan updates, and with Sierra, but it seems not, at least in my case.

This is not the problem of the HDD ‘self-dismounting’ randomly.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tim

If you happen to have a Gen 5 version of the G-RAID then you can run our FW update on it. I would suggest calling in for step through process of that and to verify your G-RAID generation.
