G-Drive USB C crashing new MacBook Pro 2016

I purchased a new G-Drive 2 TB USB C drive to use in backing up my new MacBook Pro 2016 with TimeMachine. The initial backup was successful. I also used TimeMachine’s encryption option to encrypt the G-Drive. Today, I attached the G-Drive (note, must use an adapter as the new MB Pro only uses USB C type connectors) and my MacBook Pro crashed. If I unplug the G-Drive, the computer restarts but continues to crash any time I attach the G-Drive.

Of course, I though maybe the USB adapter was the cause, but it works fine with all other peripherals that I use with it. As far as I know, there is no way to currently attach the G-Drive to the new MacBook Pro 2016 without an adapter.

It may be the encryption used by TimeMachine, but right now, I cannot turn it off as the drive continues to crash the computer.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you
