G-Drive 4tb Firmware Update without Firewire 800

When attempting to update the firmware on my 4tb G-Drive, the utility tells me I can only run the update by connecting the drive to a Firewire 800 port. This is a rather obsolete technology, so I do not have Firewire 800 on my PC. Instead, I connect either via USB 3.0 or eSATA. I am running Windows 7 64.

Please tell me there’s a way to update the firmware via USB?

There is no need for the firmware updater unless you are using the drive on a Mac and only if you are getting the -50 errors at that time. If you are using USB you never have the issues the firmware was even released for. It is FireWire exclusive.
