Format time for 3TB MyBook?

I am having issues when I connect my 3TB MyBook to my 3TB MyCloud.  The MyCloud basically freezes up when they are connected.  The MyCloud runs fine when the MyBook is removed.

So, WD support has tried a lot of things to get them to play nice and the last thing they asked me to do was a full format (NTSF) on the MyBook to see if something was wrong with the partition or format.  I used a Windows 7 laptop to start the formatting (Capacity: 2.72 TB, NTFS, Allocation unit size: 4096 bytes).

The formatting process has been going for about 16 hours now and the drive only shows about 2/3 done.  Is this a normal amount of time?  I have reformatted 500GB drives and they might take an hour or so but nothing this big.

I have a 3T My book also and haven’t reformatted it yet. I do know things like other scans I’ve done take a really long time because of disc size. Reformatting does take a long  time.

Well, it took 36 hours to reformat.  Here are some observations:

  1. LED is solid white

  2. Using the properties option (or rename option), I cannot rename the drive

  3. Copying small files (~100MB) seems to be fine.

Mostly concerned about the white vs. blue LED on the front.

Now, after about 12-18 hours post format, the white LED is just blinking about every 2 seconds.
