This is probably a stupid question, but are we supposed to make a separate folder for each movie, or do they all get put in the same directory? Or which is best? I prefer using ISO or MKV files.
It depends on how you like to see your movies. I like to have an order so I have a folder for each movie.
For example:
The main root I have HD movies folder, inside of this folder if have a folder for each movie:
Batman folder.
Xmen folder.
But you do not need to put your movies in a folder if you do not want to.
That depends, do you prefer folder view or library view?
Thank you for the replies. I don’t have many movies yet, so far just some favorites. I also much prefer viewing the larger library view with box art of the movies.
I also plan on storing family photos on it, and some short family videos. As a backup, and to view. But photos I definitely will keep in separate folders.
I didn’t know for sure if there was one method for the folder layout that is better or not.
Don’t be afraid of putting all your movies in one folder.
… that’s what I do… with ONE EXCEPTION.
If I have SERIAL movies (like the Star Wars collection, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc… ) I put them all in one folder.
So I have my shared drive.
In the root of that share, I have folders:
drwxrwxrwx 2 admin administ 4096 Dec 23 2010 Indiana Jones/
drwxrwxrwx 2 admin administ 4096 Aug 13 09:43 Men in Black/
drwxrwxrwx 5 admin administ 4096 Sep 24 08:01 Oceans Trilogy/
drwxrwxrwx 2 admin administ 4096 Dec 23 2010 Spider Man/
drwxrwxrwx 4 admin administ 4096 Sep 15 18:59 Star Trek/
drwxrwxrwx 9 admin administ 4096 Sep 25 22:41 Star Wars/
drwxrwxrwx 3 admin administ 4096 Sep 15 18:59 The Mummy Trilogy/
drwxrwxrwx 5 admin administ 4096 Sep 17 23:52 Transformers/
… and then all the other movies are in the same root folder.
