Folder Properties Indicate Files But Files Are Missing

I have a 1 TB My World Book NAS (White with White Light) that my desk PC and my wife’s laptop back up to.

My wife’s laptop’s hard drive just failed and she need immediate access to several files for work tomorrow. So, I went into her backup file from my desktop and located the files. I copied one to my hard drive though the other appeared to be corrupted. I went back into the back up folder and now all of the files have disappeared!

When I check properties on the folders, it indicated that they contain files but upon opening them, the files are not there. I’d greatly appreciate some thoughts on this.
