Folder missing after adding metadata

After using “get info” for some films stored on an external hard drive , the folder containing them has disappeared.

This folder also contained other non info’d films.

Media rebuild did not help, windows explorer cannot see the folder, and a deleted files recovery program failed to find them. Have also run a chkdsk on drive.

Any ideas?
