Firmware for My Passport for Mac

Hi, i am quite new to WD so I need help. I have download everything I could that came with the Backup but as far as I can see, by everything I mean WD Security (where I setup my passwords), WD Drive Utilities and the My passport itself. Do I need the firmware? Because I have already transfered some files to it, that I do not have backed up somewhere else how do I go on about this?

I had a WD My Cloud 2TB, so I transfered from that to WD My Passport for Mac, but I had a very nice WD Cloud system that was easier to see what I had inside. With my WD My Passport for Mac, I only transfered the stuff there as a normal folder. Is this ok? Or do I NEED the firmware?

What is the Firmware, anyway?

Firmware are normally create to fix any issues that some users might be experiencing depending on the configuration of the systems. 

If you are not experiencing any issues with the unit, then you don’t need to update the firmware.
