Firmware 2.02.32 Not playing all mp4 files

I had the same problem yesterday after updating with 20.02.32. I followed your instructions to rollback. Now everything works fine…

Thanks.

ok my problem is solved. Videos working with 2.02.32

here is what i did:

I updated my wd tv live gen 3 via ethernet cable.

After successfull startup i reseted it to default settings. It rebooted>made initial setup.

disabled library function and also automatic downloading content.

Setup  access to network share (microsoft networking to my NAS)

Deleted all files from NAS which started . and ._ (i supose hidden linux/max files).

And it works.

I can playback files again. And wifi works also. I don’t actually use it, but in setup i can see all networks available.

Firmware 2.02.32:  Playing videos from a USB attached Toshiba Canvio.  Each video is in a like named folder.  Videos formats used are mkv, DVD(vob), or MP4.  Of 8 mp4 videos only 5 were displayed.  All movies were displayed in the FILE section.  When opening the folder for the undisplayed mp4 videos I find that the mp4 file was identified as a music file.

Just finished converting one of the mp4 videos to mkv.  I deleted the wd file on the Toshiba and plugged it into the WDTVLive media player.  Now it does show on the video section.  This will be my temporary solution, but I hope this problem is fixed in the next firmware release.

Thanks!

Some good hints you provided! I currently don’t  have a NAS (but I once had). I also don’t use library or auto download (need to check that settings doesn’t change with update).

Initially I updated via ethernet, then tried thru USB, same result. Did factory resets too and full reeboots as well by disconnecting and reconnecting everything. No difference.

I think my issue is a bit trickier though as I have files that are basically identical with identical video & audio codecs. Some play, some don’t!

UPDATE: WD support team has contacted me and they are looking in the the issue I’m having. I honestly have to complement their customer support! It is great feedback being contacted and knowing that someone is looking in to this! Good work!

I get the same issue as gampshou, i dont really want to convert to mkv though so will need to leave as an issue

Same here - MP4’s are hit and miss - no rhyme or reason either - some refuse to play all of the time, some refuse to play some of the time.  Seems if it fails on one, then even ones that previously work then refuse to play.

All the files I have tried are on a Synology NAS (DS-1813+ / DSM 5 latest) - settings remain unchanged since previous firmware - reverting back immediately solved the problem.

Definitely a firmware bug.

EDIT:

I verified library and  auto download were still DISABLED after updating.

I found a rollback file.

I have same issues playing mp4 slide show encoded from Photodex Proshow.  Used to work fine before this firmware.  MP4 videos taken by Galaxy S3 phone works fine though.

Here is my media info for NOT working file.

In my case not only I can’t play all mp4 file , but i can’t show the new folder that I create , I’ ll be able to show it in the file mode not in video but they don’ t show the flie inside the folder , it’ s a very [Deleted - Trancer] update please solve it as soon as possible thanks

I have also the same problem. All my mp4 files can’t be played. And all my files are mp4 files. And for now I have no solution . Please, as Hunter60 said, solve it as soon as possible, it’s a huge bug. Thanks

Same here.

For me, it’s even more frustrating. After trying to play an mp4, it freezes. 2.01.86 (or whichever one I had before this week’s update) worked perfectly

Appreciate the advice on how to rollback; am downloading 2.01.86 now, and will let you know if it works

Does anybody know if Western Digital is working on this bug, and if they will be able to fix it soon ? Some information ? Thanks

Every one of you needs to file an official support ticket on it…  If WD isn’t aware of the magnitude of the issue, they likely won’t do anything about it.

Hi guys, this has been passed to support already.

I have no problems playing mp4 files on 2.02.32, and I do have a lot of them.  I play them off my PC using Universal Media Server, with the option to skip transcoding for all mp4 files.  Universal Media Server is an off-shoot of PS3 Media Server, which is no longer in development.

Same here, I’m playing my ususal small collection of MP4 test files just fine.

Since updating to this firmware I can’t play ANY media from ANY source (USB or network).

And I can’t roll back.

I got the previous one, but it doesn’t come up with “new firmware” despite changing the info file version number and date.

I bow is now more or less useless to me.

I will file a ticket. Hopefully this gets fixed fast.

sounds like you’re editing the Wrong file  ( wdtvlivegen3.info) it’s the wdtvlivegen3.ver file that needs editing.

see this thread: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming/Where-can-I-download-OLD-FIRMWARE/m-p/780531

or…  Download the “WD Official” rollback firmware  (which WD have edited the  wdtvlivegen3.ver for you)

I noticed something quirky with the way SMP deals with mp4 files even under the previous firmware.

I have some videos in an mp4 container and noticed that occassionaly the folders containing a few of the mp4 video files would be listed under the Music tab. Selecting the folder under Music would give the message No files found. They would be visible under the Video tab though and playable. Rebuilding the media library will clear these up but others can crop up when I add other mp4 video files to the library.

I have seen the same behaviour under the current firmware but I have never had a problem playing my mp4 video files. It seems the SMP is not quite sure if they are video or audio sometimes.
