Ok, I’m freaking out because I just had several hundred pictures disappear all at once. I had a folder on my Passport for Mac that I wanted to move onto my Mac’s desktop, but when I dragged the folder over to my desktop, I was prompted with a message to “Stop” or “Replace” the pre-existing folder on my desktop with the same name. I hadn’t realized this folder with the same exact name was on my desktop, so I picked “Stop” as I didn’t want to override what was in the desktop folder. But as soon as I did that, all 800 or so pictures in the folder on my external drive disappeared. The folder is still there, but not the files themselves. Where did they go and why in the world would this happen? Is there any way to recover them?
Hi there,
The STOP option will simply stop the copying process and will not replace or add any files to the folder.
If the pictures disappeared from the external drive, did you find any of them in the folder on your desktop?
If not, you can try a data recovery software online.
I hope the lost files haven’t overwritten by the OS X. Feragui is correct. You should try running the Mac data recovery software because these applications can easily let you know if the recovery of deleted photos is possible. Of course, you have to pay for the recovery But at least start running the application to scan the hard drive for deleted pictures.
