Hi

Is it possible to turn on File Server (to access My Cloud as external disk from Windows/Linux Samba/NFS) even on WD My Cloud?

The WD specification define, that File Server is only on WD My Cloud Mirror version. But same is defined about FTP server and here is description how to turn it on even on My Cloud. Is it possible also for File Server, just turn it on?

I am now looking which version to buy, because I need the File Server as I have it on my old WD My Book.

Yes, you can map the MyCloud as an external disk under windows, MacOS, Android, etc, using SMB and AFP.

For local access, this is very much the preferred method.
