Family folder

Can we safely rename this new “Family” folder to something else, like “common” for example ?

are there any guidance notes on how to use it ?

it cannot be renamed, deleted or changed.
Just put stuff in it and any guest that you add to your My Cloud Home can see and share content with you on the same device. Tool Tip for details

Why then do these options appear when selecting the Family Folder ?

it looks at odds with your response and the linked support document

also you mention Tool Tip for details…can you expand on that please

The folder that you have created in NOT the OEM Family Folder
Please check your firmware version which includes the real Family Share file

I did not create the “Family” Folder, it just appeared.

Interesting.
The Shared Family Folder is only available in the 5.0 firmware for My Cloud Home.
Your unit hasn’t received the Over the Air Update.
SUGGESTION:

Check the contents of the existing Family folder
Rename the Family folder to Family-old
When firmware update happens, the new Family Folder will be created

Do you have PIP enabled?

The Family folder is empty…when I try to rename it I get this message

This is indeed very strange.
It’s possible that your My Cloud Home has already updated firmware but there may be a problem with browser cache. Pleas log out of MyCloud.com, clear browser cache, stop and start the browser. Login to MyCloud.com and check the firmware version and Family folder.

Ok

so I did what you suggested re browser cache etc and no change
I then rebooted the mycloud home and hey presto !

shame the family folder cant be renamed though, anyway you can implement this ?

Do you think you’ll eventually let customers edit the Name of the “Family” folder? I was excited to use this My Cloud Home for my own personal use. That being said, having to see a “Family” folder every time I open the app is not ideal. Or you should give the customer the option to hide it, or remove it altogether. I understand the concept of the folder - and don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great idea. (makes sharing easier) I just hope in future updates you allow the customer to at least edit the name of said folder. To some, structure and naming conventions is a big deal, I’m thinking of returning this for a less “family” themed service that’s 100% customizable. Thanks for your time.
