Extremely Slow Speed My Book Live 2 GB

Hi!

I wanted to do a back up off my MacBook Pro OsX 10.7.2 Lion. The back up was about 80 gb so i started it went to sleep and the next morning after approximately ten hours only 2gb of 80 gb were finished, that is really bad! The nas-server was connected to the computer via a lan cable because it is usually the faster way.

Your backup speed should be fast if you turn off itunes, twonky and wd2go (since these applications could be updating their index while running your backup). And be sure to use a Gigabit Ethernet connection (your switch or router must support this)

Check the back of the MBL (The Ethernet port) and if the light is amber instead of green, then it’s working on Megabit mode so it will be slow.

Hi!

All the programs are turned off and the light is green so that can’t be the problem

If you’re on wireless, even with a Gigabit router you’re going to get speeds below Megabit.

but even if i have the my book live direcly connected via a Lan-cable to my computer it does’nt get faster

Then we have an issue. What color is the LED on the BACK of the MBL when connected to your computer?

it is green

Something else to check…

  • Go to and log onto the the Dashboard/Web UI
  • Go to the SUPPORT menu
  • Create and save a system report to your computer’s hard drive.
  • Within the downloaded ZIP file locate the text file name named: smart_info
  • Copy, as a reply, all the text on here BUT please remember not to post the serial number.
  • Within the downloaded ZIP file locate the text file name named: ifconfig_output
  • Copy, as a reply, all the text on here.
  • Within the downloaded ZIP file locate the text file name named: process_list
  • Copy, as a reply, all the text on here.

The purpose of this exercise is to determine if the hard drive within your MBL is experiencing problems, determine if there are any hardware networking faults and also see what processes are running at the time of the snapshot.

Thanks. In wonder if it’s your computer that’s at issue. The network interface is showing zero errors and warning which is excellent. SMART drive diagnostics are also normal and without error.

Have you got another computer with a gigabit network port that you can try connect your MBL to so as to eliminate the computer as the problem?
