External WD makes ticking noice and won't show up in disk managment

I have a WD S/N [Deleted]  that stopped working yesterday. I plugged in my external drive directly into my laptop (no hubs. Just directly into my usb 3.0 port) and oppened some stuff. But after a minute or so my explorer window keeps loading a directory on my WD with a not responding window as a result. At the same time my drive starts making a gentle ticking sound. I unplug the WD and reconnect it. Now The light on my drive keeps flashing but nothing happens accept for the ticking noice. After a while I hear a beep kinda thing and the drive reboots (as it sounds). The weird thing is that it still shows up as removable device (see the next picture)

but when I click safely disconnect it won’t disconnect and says that the device is bussy.

Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can recover almost all my holiday photo’s or has/had the same problem? To just replace my harddrive is not an option.

Hello,

You may try a data recovery software in order to recover your files. If this does not work then you will need to contact a data recovery company.

Also before trying this I always recommend replacing the USB cable and trying on another computer.
