Hi,
I’m new to this and not great with HW, but am quite desperate for some help please. I bought a 500 GB WD external hard drive around 12 years ago.
When I plugged it in about two years ago, I heard a pop sound and it smelled a little of something burning. I’m guessing a power surge popped a component. I’m looking to fix this myself as the cost for retrieving data is crazy expensive.
Am I right to assume I can simply buy a replacement board?
Number on the current board is - 4061-705014-104
Could it be the charger plug instead?
Please help.
