External hard drive on ma - i can see it but can't drag and drop my files to it?

I just want a storage device local to my Mac - dragging and dropping some files onto it and it doesn’t.

My mac sees the drive, disk utility sees the drive but I can get anything on it - do I need software just to run as a plain old storage device?

You probably just need to format it for Mac.
