External Hard drive having problem

Hi all,

Hard Drive details -
        Western Digital
My Passport Essential SE (USB 3.0)
        1 TB

Issue / Problem :

Immediately when I plug-in the hard drive to my PC/Laptop , I can see blinking white light which tells us that drive is functioning. But after couple of seconds… I can hear some repeated sound ( like tick… tick… ) from the drive.

Not sure what happened :frowning:

When I inserted the drive , it shows the drive in “my computer” , and after couple of seconds it disappers. Looks like some issue.

I have some importanted DATA in it.

Can someone help whether my hard drive got damaged ? If so can it be recovered ?

Is it possible to get the data back at any cost ?

Note : I DONOT have warranty.

I’m NOT bother about the hard drive , just bothering about the data in it.

Please help.

Try a different USB port and cable. Make sure the cable is not longer than the original or connecting through a hub. Try on a different computer if possible.

Joe

Thanks Joe.

I tried using different usb cable , and even on different machines. But no luck.

Do we have any chance where we can get the data out even if the hard drive damaged ? Any idea ?

Can someone please help me here.

Is there any " possibility " to get the data out from a damaged hard drive ???

WDDriveUtilitiesSetup_for_Windows_1_1_0_51.zip try download and diognos.

did you drop the drive recently? clicking sounds are usually assosiated with failed heads, so you might have to look for data recovery specialists if you need your files back. Not really a DIY type of project.
