External Hard Drive being a pitb

Hi there,

Forgive me for the unprofessional language as I’m not completely up on tech talk.

Basically I’ve had a WD Hard drive for storing documents/pictures/videos etc for several years now for use with my windows PC. It’s always worked perfectly fine. For whatever reason I plugged the hard drive into my Macbook pro last week and it worked in there in that I could access stuff on it, but couldn’t save to it.

I’ve now tried to reuse it in the PC and the PC won’t pick it up at all. The hard drive whirs and the light blinks but it’s not opening up or showing in the list of drives.

I’m pretty certain the cables not faulty as the drive works fine in the MBP. I’m wondering if the MBP could have somehow made the drive inaccessible to the PC or if its something really simple.

Hope someone can help and, again, apologies for the lack of tech talk.

Best,

JMGJG

Even though it’s been used in the USB plugs at the front of the PC for years, could it be that they are no longer providing the amount of power it needs?!

Hello,

That’s a possibility.

If possible, test the drive on a different PC and check if the drive is showing under disk management.
