The icon for the external hard drive no longer appears on the desk top. How can I remedy the situation?
What OS are you using? Windows doesn’t create a desktop icon by default, it is something you would have to manually create. Windows will only create a drive mapping in My Computer or Computer depending on your OS. If you are using a Mac, then that means that the drive is not mounting at all. You can check your Disk Utilities in Mac and see if the drive shows up there. If so, I would try running First Aid on the drive and see if you can manually Mount the drive from the Disk Utilities.
I’m not certain what has happened, but when I hooked up the external hard drive to my min-mac, the icon appeared on my desk top. Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my problem.
