Experience + good and bad + search options

Hello everyone,

Thanks to this forum, great idea

Sorry for my english, I am french

First of all, I bought an Emtec, with a built-in hard disk.

In a living room, I don’t understand people who use this machine ?!?

I keep it only one day, toooooooooooo much nooise.

So, I bought the WD TV Live Media Player, and a WD Hard disk 2To.

Well, great machine

  • no nooise, only the hard disk, but not too much

  • simple menu

  • easy installation and setup

  • good quality and lot of codecs

  • one picture for each folder

BUT

  • dvd menu not available :frowning: (yes I vote for this idea on this forum)

  • I don’t undestand how to attach a picture to a file ???

  • no search otpions, if no use of media library :frowning:

I expected a simple ‘file/folder’ search

On my hard disk, all my dvd backup are

\movies\title of movie 1\*.vob

\movies\title of movie 2\*.vob

\movies\title of movie x\*.vob

In the Media library, I see the *.vob, but unfortunately, not the folder’s names :frowning:

One solution is to convert my dvd in .iso files, but converting 500 dvd it’s hard to do only to enabled search options :-/

I think you can turn the Library function OFF, and then browse the folder trees in their native form.

Not sure (because I don’t use direct attached storage) but it might be worth a try.

DVD menu may or may not come later - it all depends on WD…

Attaching a picture to a file depends on the file. You can embed a picture within an mp3 or mp4. You can name the picture the same as the video ( e.g. movie.jpg goes with movie.mpg).

Unfortunately the media library consolidates all the files without relationship to folders. You can browse via folders to see the individual folders and play your vobs. This is better as you can press enter on the folder and the WDTV will play the contents. As you say its a bit difficult to find individual films with multiple vobs.

Thanks for your reply

If I turn off the Media Library, well, you are not able to search, only to browse folders.

If I turn on the Media Library, well, you are able to search, but only based on file name (not based folder name).

If I search a folder, I have to look it for manually, browsing folders :frowning:

Well, it will be plaisant to have a search option, based on the file system, to find folders & files

For folders, when pressing enter, show subfolders & files in it.

For supported files, simply play it (and automaticly choose music / picture / video)

For unsupported files (doc / pdf / …), simply show a message

PS: I use the firmware 1.01.21
