Yes, that’s true if you format the drive in exFAT then you will not be able to use the Time Machine in Mac. The best file format for you would be Mac OS Extended (Journaled) if you want to use Time Machine, but you would not be able to use the drive (Read/Write) in Windows after formatting the drive in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
