EX4100 - Two Drives for RAID1 & the remaining drives for backup?

Hello,

I currently only have 2 drives installed in my NAS in a RAID 1 configuration so I cannot explore for myself, but I was wondering if it is possible to independently configure the drives for different purposes if more drives are fitted?

For example, is it possible to have 2 drives in a RAID 1 configuration and disk 3 and/or 4 for backup purposes?

I know backups ideally need to be in a different physical location but I am just curious if this is possible, or if the entire disk array can only have one option applied to it.

Thank you

Hi Bat-n-Ball,

You can configure two RAID on your WD My Cloud EX4 by configuring new RAID in Setting.

You can refer to the link given below for more information.

Hi john15,

Thanks for your reply.

I put 2 x 1TB drives into bays 3 & 4 and changed the RAID mode to JBOD as this now seems to suit my needs the best.

However, I came accross no option to configure two RAID’s on my system during the process - it only gave me the option of selecting one RAID type.

You can only configure one RAID at a time. If you using two RAID 1, I would suggest using RAID 10, only a suggest.
