EX4 Windows 10 no respect for NoAccess and ReadOnly

New EX4, firmware 2.10.310.

Windows 10 Pro. Network is set as “private network” with file sharing.

Share: RO
Public OFF
Recycle ON
OpLocks ON (default)
FTP OFF
WebDAV OFF
User Access: FRED, set to Read Only

User: FRED
Password: ON
Group: None
Share Access: RO (shows as Read Only).

Network Settings:
Static IP Address
FTP Access: OFF
AFP Service: OFF
WebDAV: OFF
SNMP: OFF
SSH: OFF
Dynamic DNS: OFF

Workgroup: ABCD (same as the other windows computers on my network, but I seem to have the read only file access problem if I set a different workgroup).
Local Master Browser: OFF
Max SMB: SMB 3
Share Aggregation: OFF
Active Directory: OFF
LLTD: OFF

I can enter \EX4Name\RO, see files in the share RO and I’m able to add new files, and delete files. Same behavior if I map the RO share to a drive letter. Same behavior if I set the RO share to “no access” for user

I don’t think I should be able to do this! What’s going on?

Thanks,

Ed

Hello there,

This only happens on Windows 10 or does it happen on other operating systems as well?

All of my machines are Windows 10. Same behavior on all.

I’ve identified the problem. The Share on the EX4 appears to have been defective somehow. Regardless of settings on the dashboard, this share was public. No amount of changing to private, setting user access to full/read-only/no-access, would fix the problem; it was always accessible read-write.

I deleted the Share, recreated it, and voila! it worked as advertised. Note that the Share was created with a v1 firmware (prior to my update).

BTW, I have had none of the Windows 10 issues noted in the community, once updating to the latest 2.10.310 firmware.

Thanks,

Ed
