EX2 Ultra with one hard disk

Dear community,

I’ve got myCloud EX2 Ultra diskless. I am trying to understand whether I can operate EX2 Ultry with only one hard drive installed or it is mandatory to install 2 hard disks. There are few topics in the forum related to replacement of the existing hard disks or migrating from one to another system. However I was not able to find a clear answer related to my question.

What I am trying to understand. I found in the user guide that if I choose raid mode JBOD the hard disks in EX2 Ultra will be treated as independent separate volumes. Do I understand this option correct that

  • I can install first one hard disk and operate EX2 Ultra as an extended drive for my PC?
  • I can install the second hard disk later to extend the space and have second volume in EX2 Ultra?

I am not going to use it as mirror or backup solution but as simple extended space to store my data.

Thanks a lot for any feedback.
Walter

YEs, you can use a single drive. Just make sure it’s in bay 1.

Hello sktn77a, thanks for reply. I did it this way and it worked. Looking forward to use this NAS. Bevore I had just my external USB hard drives plugged into my router. It worked as well. But the speed of data transfer was very low. Now it looks really good with this EXT2 Ultra. Thanks again.
