Ex capitan no longer showing WD external

My 2009 Mac Book pro started to no longer mount my WD Studio XL although the software does mount. What can I do to get my WD back?
Thanks for any help

Hello,

You could try some basic troubleshooting:

1- Connect the power adapter to the wall directly.

2- If the computer is a desktop, connect it on the back USB port (directly to the computer, not through a hub).

3- Go to "Disk Utility” to verify if the drive shows up there.

If the drive shows up in Disk Utilityt but it is not seen on Computer, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.

Thanks
The drive shows up as the software not the drive prob because I was playing around.
Through anyway to get stuff off the drive before it totally fails? And if it’s corrupted does that mean I’ve lost everything?
Thanks
