Everything is just ... SLOW

I wonder if there is any fix for speeding up the overall performance. My 2TB MyCloud device has always been sluggish, both when accessing it through windows explorer and especially when wanting to work the settings through the web interface.

I’m using an old Apple router thingy with a harddrive. The hdd is turned off. Everything is connected through 2.4ghz wifi, so for using the web interface shouldn’t be caused by the router.

  1. When changing an option with the web interface it takes about 1-2 minutes before the change is implemented. I base this observation on (a) a small area saying “Updating…” appears (b) nothing happens when clicking an option but I learned sometimes something actually happens due to the error messages piling up half an hour later (slightly exaggerated).

  2. When browsing through windows explorer it is very sluggish. The transferring rates differs between 0kb/s - 5Mb/s depending on its mood.

Ideas?

For a slow web interface with the My Cloud Dashboard there are a few things to check. Try disabling any web browser add-on’s/extensions. It is possible some extensions may conflict with the scripts used by the My Cloud Dashboard coding. Try a different web browser. The My Cloud works best when all devices are using Gigabit Ethernet including the router the My Cloud is connected to. Depending on the WiFi hardware it can be slower (much slower) than a wired Gigabit connection. If the router does not support Gigabit network connections for the local LAN. Start by upgrading to a router that does.

How old is your Apple router thingy? Is it 802.11ac? Maybe it’s time for an update. I have a Linksys router.
