Error when connecting to VLC over FTP

I’ve tried to connect to My Cloud EX2 Ultra using VLC over FTP on iOS and from Desktop version, but get error. On iOS I get an error that says, “SERVER CONNECTION FAILED Please check your server address and credentials.” On Desktop version, I see an error that says, “553 User not allow” after trying to retrieve file/video. I have been able to connect and retrieve files using a different FTP client. Any ideas on what might not allow it to work? I used to be able to connect with an older model from WD (My Book World Edition II). Thanks!

I would venture the guess that you did not allow the user to access the folder. Once you have allowed for FTP access, you ALSO have to go to each folder, and allow it to be accessed.
Do note, however, that the EX2 seems to have a pretty horrible FTP server, so a lot of FTP functions that you might want to use, doesn’t seem to be working (for me at least).
Additionally, You may want to add the parameters :ftp-user=username :ftp-pwd=password in the “additional options”, if you try to add an FTP to VLC as a URL. This seems to be the only way VLC will open an FTP address.
